Dry chemical fire suppression systems act very quickly at the heart of the fire, before it spreads through the protected area. When a fire breaks out the system detects it and activates automatically, spraying powder directly into the fire to break the chain reaction and smother the flames; over an engine the powder forms a protective layer that prevents reignition. ABC dry chemical powder is effective on class A fires of cellulosic materials such as wood, paper and cloth, class B fires of flammable liquids and gases, and class C fires involving energised electrical equipment.
The FireDETEC R107 Dry Chemical System uses a fluorine-free powder, is certified to UNECE R107 and protects the engine compartments of M2 and M3 passenger transport vehicles such as buses and coaches. Detection and actuation use a proprietary continuous linear pneumatic tube, only 4 kg of agent covers a standard compartment up to 4 m3, and installation is fast because high-temperature resistant flexible hoses replace rigid piping. The FUREX ABC 770 agent is a silicone-coated, non-conductive powder that stays effective at low temperatures; the ABC90 system protects open chemical storage areas.
