Water mist fire protection discharges water as very fine droplets and suppresses fire through several mechanisms at once. The droplets absorb heat and cool the flames, they wet the fuel and act as a shield that limits the spread of the fire, and as they evaporate the resulting vapour displaces oxygen from the fire area. Because the mist targets the seat of the fire directly, the system needs less water than a traditional sprinkler system, which limits water damage. Water mist leaves no harmful residues and has zero ozone depletion potential and zero global warming potential.
The total flooding version releases ultra-fine droplets simultaneously throughout an enclosed space, cooling the flame and surrounding gases, displacing oxygen through steam expansion and attenuating radiant heat to prevent spread. It suits high-risk enclosed areas where water damage must be minimised: liquid fuel hazards, flammable spray risks, energised electrical equipment and high-value assets such as generators and gas turbines. The pre-engineered COMPACT LINE system applies the same principle to the engines of mining vehicles, buses and coaches and forestry vehicles.
